"Telling Our Own Stories: Lumbee Music and History"

Malinda Maynor Lowery and Willie Lowery, members of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina, will present tribal history through story telling and song.

Malinda is a 2006 inductee to the Stanford Alumni Hall of Fame and Assistant Professor of History at Harvard. She earned her master's in Documentary Film Production from Stanford and her Ph.D. in History from the University of North Carolina.

An accomplished musician and composer, Willie authored songs for "Strike at the Wind!"--an outdoor drama now in its 25th year about the Lowrie War in post Civil War North Carolina.
