The Short Documentaries of Santiago Alvarez

The Stanford Film Lab Presents:

The Short Documentaries of Santiago Alvarez

Screening and short presentation by Kristi M. Wilson

Santiago Alvarez is known the world over for his short “pamphlet-style” documentaries comprised largely of found and newsreel footage. His rapid-fire collage style of filmmaking fights corporate advertising fire with fire. Come and see the micro documentaries of a Cuban revolutionary filmmaker who spent years in the US before the revolution honing what would later become a style that he called “accelerated underdevelopment.”
