Inter-University Center for Japanese Language Studies (IUC)

The Inter-University Center for Japanese Language Studies (IUC) is the premier American program for the teaching of advanced Japanese and has provided language training to nearly 3,000 individuals to date. Our programs are designed for a diverse pool of students embarking on academic careers or professions that require fluency in Japanese.

Located in Yokohama, Japan, the Inter-University Center is run by a consortium of 15 North American universities with major programs in Japanese studies. Administrative headquarters are located at Stanford University, the founding member and flagship school. The IUC is governed by a Governing Board comprised of representatives from the 13 sponsoring universities (Brigham Young University, Columbia University, Harvard University, Princeton University, Stanford University, University of British Columbia, University of California Berkeley, University of California Los Angeles, University of Chicago, University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, University of Michigan, University of Washington, Yale University, and in association with University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Washington University in St. Louis).
