Event Details:

In 2020, the Stanford Center on Longevity and the Longevity Project launched the inaugural Century Summit.  Due to the pandemic, the first two Century Summits were entirely virtual, but that did not stop us from bringing together an extraordinary range of researchers, advocates and public figures to explore how we can make century long lives healthier, more productive and more equitable.  Last year alone, more than 3,000 people from all 50 states and 28 countries joined us to hear from speakers such as Norman Lear, Ai-Jen Poo, and Senator Brian Schatz (D-HI).

This year, for the first time, the Century Summit will be a hybrid event, with an in-person audience at Stanford and a virtual audience around the world.  We will continue in the tradition of asking smart, creative and innovative people tough questions surrounding the quest for longer and healthier life: can we shift the focus towards “health span” rather than just life span?  Can we conceive of longer careers that are not simply longer versions of our current model but are more balanced, more productive and more equitable?  And can a nation that has nurtured so much generational antipathy rethink intergenerational relationships in a positive and productive manner?

Over the next few months, we will be announcing our full list of amazing speakers and topics, but we’re already looking forward to hearing from Alice Waters on healthy food for everyone; Bill McKibben and Akaya Windwood on intergenerational activism; Bob Waldinger of Harvard University talking with Laura Carstensen about the role of happiness in longevity and health; and Sachin Jain of the Scan Health Plan and Nirav Shah of Stanford University plotting on how to rethink health care in the US.

We hope you will join us on December 13 and 14!
