Event Details:

Time[FRAMES] the 2024 Senior Exhibition at Stanford University showcases the work of nine graduating seniors majoring in Art Practice. These talented artists: Aeri Chen, Nora Collins, Gabriella Fedetto, Halima Ibrahim, Charu Jain, Destiny Kelly, Howard Kung, Sky Walker, and Gaosheng Yang, have each been on a journey of discovery as artists and students, culminating in their thesis exhibition.

This year’s cohort, through varied mediums of animation, painting, printmaking, mixed media video installation, sculpture, photography, and digital illustration have a strong overlapping connection to the motif of college and theme of memory. Be it composited images from a family archive, making a rebus-like composition of many different images, the re-piecing of found textiles, or seamlessly integrated digital collages, each artist explores the fragmentation of the image and/or the manipulation of the image (often times digitally before it is enacted in more traditional means), illuminating the fallacy of memory. Another theme that takes center stage is contemporary figuration, through varied manifestations such as body casts carefully wrapped in synthetic hair scraps and reduction relief printmaking, the artists in the exhibition are often utilizing self-portraiture to explore identity, family history, and larger societal themes.

The title of the exhibition, Time[FRAMES], speaks to the momentous milestone this event signifies and the incalculable memories that will be sparked by this shift from college student to graduate, art student to artist. Join me in celebrating these students and their accomplishments, I am very lucky to have been a small part of their scholastic and artistic journey and have learned a lot from them in turn.
