2025 King & Faith Symposium at Memorial Church: The Day Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Came to Stanford

Sponsored by

Event Details:

Please join us for a screening of Dr. King's 48-minute speech, “The Other America,” delivered April 14, 1967, at Stanford. A 16-foot-wide movie screen will be constructed on stage to create a vibrant rendering of this historic film. RSVP today.

After the screening, Philip Taubman, ’70, will join Professor Lerone Martin on stage for a short discussion about Dr. King’s visit. Mr. Taubman, an undergraduate at the time, accompanied King to and from the airport, later documenting their conversations in the Stanford Daily.

The event is co-sponsored by the Martin Luther King, Jr. Research & Education Institute, Department of African and African American Studies, Institute for Advancing Just Societies, Office of Religious and Spiritual Life, and The Northern California Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Foundation.

This event will be recorded with videography and photography for official use only on Stanford websites and similar university materials.

Please direct inquiries, including requests for American sign language interpretation, to justsocieties@stanford.edu.
