EXRESSING GENDER: A MONOLOGUE WORKSHOP WITH KATE BORNSTEIN AND YOUNG JEAN LEE

4/12 and 4/19, 5-7pm

Please RSVP here

Note: This is a two-part workshop. You are encouraged but not required to participate in both parts, and are welcome to attend one or the other as your schedule allows.

PART ONE

Come write a three-minute monologue with Young Jean Lee on the subject of gender identity and/or gender expression. It can be about your identity and expression, or that of someone you know, or of a character you’ve made up.

Young Jean is the author of Untitled Feminist Show and was the first Asian-American woman to have her play produced on Broadway. In this two-hour workshop, she'll walk you step-by-step through the process of writing and editing your monologue. This is a great workshop not only for people who have never done any creative writing, but also for experienced writers.

PART TWO

Kate Bornstein is a pioneering gender theorist, legendary performance artist, and actor of stages and screens of all sizes, including Straight White Men on Broadway and NBC’s The Blacklist

In part two of the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to read their monologues aloud (or have someone else read them) for Kate Bornstein, as time permits. Auntie Kate (as she is known to thousands of followers, friends, and family) is a famously empathetic reader and responder, so this is a rare opportunity for joyful creative exchange with one of FGSS's most influential and creative minds.

In person only; instructions for the workshop will be sent to participants next week.
