On Wednesday, March 15, 2023, the Stanford King Center on Global Development will host a Speaker Series with Hakeem Belo-Osagie about the nuances of doing business in Africa, a continent that shows tremendous promise. What is its reality? And what is its future? Our speaker will also comment on the impact of globalization on Africa's business, economic, and political future in the current context of the war in Ukraine and tension in China-US relations.

About the Speaker

Hakeem Belo-Osagie is a Nigerian entrepreneur with a track record of leading and backing highly successful private investments in various sectors of the Nigerian economy. Belo-Osagie’s experience ranges widely, including working in the President's office in Nigeria, working as a consultant in oil and gas for several international American and Japanese companies, and founding a securities trading company and staging the first hostile takeover of a major bank in Nigeria. 

He is the chairman of the board of FSDH Holding Company Ltd., which includes among its holdings a merchant bank, an asset management company, a pension fund administration company and a securities trading company. Belo-Osagie was appointed an Expert Global Advisor and member of the International Advisory Group of Equinor, the Norwegian energy company previously known as Statoil. He chairs the Board of Chocolate City Group, a leading entertainment conglomerate in Nigeria, and is also the main stakeholder in and chair of the board of Duval Properties Ltd, a real estate company engaged in a mixed use development in Abuja, Nigeria. 

Belo-Osagie is a member of both the Global Board of Advisors for the Council on Foreign Relations, and the International Advisory Council of the Brookings Institute. He is also a member of the Global Advisory Council at Harvard University, the President's Council on International Activities at Yale University, and Chair of  the Advisory Board of the Stanford Institute for Innovation in Developing Economies. He is a Senior Lecturer at Harvard Business School and a Lecturer in Management at the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

Belo-Osagie holds an international baccalaureate from the United World College of the Atlantic (UWC) and has a BA in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from Oxford University, a law degree from Cambridge University, and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
