Quantum Cosmology & The Role of Qualia

Sponsored by

This event is over.

Event Details:

Over the last few years I have become increasingly convinced that the problems that keep us from making substantial progress in the foundations of physics, including both quantum gravity and the metaphysical foundations more generally, are each unsolvable in the absence of an overall solution. We need new ideas. Here I propose a new starting point, qualia playing a role in relational quantum cosmology, that I believe is closer to the truth.

Meet the Speaker : Lee Smolin is a theoretical physicist at the Perimeter Institute and an adjunct professor of physics at the University of Waterloo. Famous for his contributions to quantum gravity, Lee Smolin's work has also impacted areas such as cosmology, quantum mechanics, theoretical biology, philosophy of science and economics.

Meet the Moderator:  Kunal Mooley s an astrophysicist and the co-founder of the Institute of Mind, Intelligence and Consciousness Studies (IMICS). He has been hosting Consciousness & Reality colloquia since 2019 with the aim of accelerating research on problems centered around the nature of reality and the existence of life in the universe.
