Event Details:
This exploration of the behind-the-scenes negotiations that concluded the 1963 Birmingham campaign and opened the way to the passage of the 1964 Civil Rights bill reveals the curious but essential contributions of Black Mennonite activist Vincent Harding, his relationship with Martin Luther King, Jr., and the involvement of the Anabaptist community in the long-Black, freedom struggle. In the process, the multiple, often contradictory dynamics of religious engagement in political change also become apparent.
