Event Details:
Join the Stanford Afro-Latin Jazz Ensemble for a special evening featuring guest artist Jesus Diaz and his unique blend of modern Cuban music! Mr. Diaz is a world-class percussionist, vocalist and composer
whose musical vision includes both traditional Afro-folkloric sensibilities as well as ultra-modern Cuban "Timba" stylings. We will be presenting several of his original compositions that you most likely have never heard before! The music is guaranteed to perk up your ears – and dancing in the aisles is encouraged!
Arriving to the US from Habana in 1980, Mr. Diaz has established himself as one of the most innovative musicians in the Afro-Latin genre. He has toured, recorded or performed with such artists as Stevie
Wonder, Carlos Santa, Dizzy Gillespie, Giovanni Hidalgo, Jose Luis "Changuito" Quintana , and the Carribean Jazz Project. He also leads the Bay Area's premier Timba band "Jesus Diaz Y Su QBA" which has released several albums of original Cuban music including "Caramelo" and "El Jardiniero."
