AI governance is at a turning point. The Paris AI Action Summit (Feb 10–11) marked a shift from AI safety to societal harms like environmental impact—while also moving toward a pro-innovation, deregulatory agenda. Rising geopolitical tensions, fueled by China’s DeepSeek model and the AI arms race, led to the US and UK not ratifying the Summit declaration—a first in global AI summits.
