Session Description

This presentation shares findings from my research on how West African women, particularly Nigerian women, who are remote workers, navigate intercultural communication in global digital workplaces. Drawing on in-depth interviews, the study reveals how culture, gender, language, and technology shape daily interactions between Nigerian workers and colleagues from the US, UK, Canada, and other countries. The research highlights two key dynamics: how cultural norms shape digital communication practices, and how women strategically manage their digital personas to align with Western expectations of professionalism. I will share their detailed account of  how they rely on technology, including AI tools such as ChatGPT, to soften tone, translate meaning, and navigate unfamiliar cultural cues.
