 s novice programmers to write modular R code and to follow best practices 
 for data analysis. The emphasis is on building a strong foundation in the 
 fundamentals of the R language and on best practices for scientific comput
 ing: breaking analyses into modular units\, automating tasks\, and encapsu
 lating functionality. Note that this workshop focuses on the R programming
  language and will not teach statistical analysis.\n\nThis is an interacti
 ve workshop! Please bring your laptop with the required software pre-insta
 lled. Detailed installation instructions are available here. Contact the i
 nstructors if you need help with installation.\n\nPlease register to atten
 d. Registration is exclusively open to current Stanford affiliates and wil
 l be offered on a first-come\, first-served basis. Given the limited space
