Event Details:
Lovingkindness meditation is a process that emphasizes compassion for ourselves and others as the best field for learning, self-development, and having an ethical relationship with the world. This practice develops greater concentration, an expanded sense of connection, skills to deal with anger, fear and frustration, and a better sense of balance in both taking care of ourselves and taking care of others. Sharon Salzberg will explore the theory behind these meditation exercises and support us in our own experience through direct instruction, using classical techniques in a modern idiom. There will also be opportunities for questions. This workshop is suitable for both new and experienced meditators. Sharon Salzberg also is providing the summit session titled Compassion and Joy: Practicing the Dharma in Times of Uncertainty on Oct. 31, and a Loving kindness iPause Guided practice session on Nov. 1.
Sharon Salzberg is a meditation pioneer, world-renowned teacher, and New York Times bestselling author. She was among the first to bring mindfulness and lovingkindness meditation to mainstream American culture 50 years ago, inspiring generations of meditation teachers and wellness influencers. Sharon is co-founder of the Insight Meditation Society in Barre, MA, and the author of thirteen books, including the New York Times bestseller Real Happiness, now in its second edition, and her seminal work, Lovingkindness. Sharon’s podcast, The Metta Hour, has amassed six million downloads and features interviews with thought leaders from the mindfulness movement and beyond.
