Event Details:

What is a high school education in awareness, love, and belonging? Since 2014, Peace in Schools has methodically developed, tested, and researched Mindful Studies: the nation's first, for-credit, research-backed mindfulness class provided in public high schools. Join Peace in Schools leaders to hear their insights, experience a sample lesson, and learn how to apply best practices for bringing mindfulness into education.

Janice's other sesison is a guided practice titled What We Wished We Learned in High School: Directing the Attention and Remembering Who We Are, also offered on Oct. 18th. Caverly's other sessions are on Oct. 17 and include a lecture titled The Heart of Who We Are: Realizing Freedom Together, an interactive workshop titled Moving Beyond Personal and Collective Conditioning, and a guided practice titled Releasing Striving in Your Practice and in Your Life. Janice Martellucci is the Executive Director of the non-profit Peace in Schools, based in Portland, Oregon. For over a decade she has been an innovative leader in the field of mindfulness in education, playing an integral role in designing and implementing the nation’s first, for-credit, semester-long mindfulness course in public high schools. Her contemplative roots started with her upbringing and deepened during her years studying in retreat settings and training intensively with Caverly Morgan. Janice has led Peace in Schools through an important phase of growth, including developing an in-depth train-the-trainer model, expanding into California, and collaborating with other leaders in the field. Under her leadership, Peace in Schools is rolling out a major initiative to bring transformative mindfulness education to teens and educators in new regions across the country.

Caverly Morgan is a meditation teacher who blends the original spirit of Zen with a modern nondual approach, drawing from her eight years of training in a silent Zen monastery. She is the author of The Heart of Who We Are: Realizing Freedom Together as well as A Kids Book About Mindfulness. Caverly is the founder of Peace in Schools, a nonprofit that created the nation’s first for-credit mindfulness class in public high schools. She is also the founder of Realizing Freedom Together, a non-profit organization dedicated to making practices that lead to liberation for all, accessible to all.
