Mindfulness and contemplative practices can be considered part of the larger educational field of social and emotional learning. This talk reviews the science and practice of contemplative practices for teachers and students and highlights the unique aspects and contributions of contemplative practices for the field of social and emotional learning.
Mark Greenberg, PhD is the Emeritus Bennett Chair of Prevention Science at Penn State University. He is one of the founders of CASEL (Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning, www.casel.org). He is the author of over 350 journal articles and book chapters on the development of well-being, learning, and the effects of prevention efforts on children and families. His articles include: Social and Emotional Learning as a Public Health Approach to Edcuation, in Future of Children, 27(1), 13-32. He is the Chairperson of CREATE (Creating Resilience for Educators, Administrators and Teachers in Education www.createforeducation.org), a non-profit devoted to improving schooling and the lives of teachers and students.
