Event Details:
Drawing from her recent book, Reading in the Postgenomic Age: Race, Discipline, and Bionarrativity in Contemporary North American Literature (Ohio State UP 2025), Professor Lesley Larkin (NMU) will discuss how writers engage genomic research to attune readers to postgenomic discourses of race and power. Focusing on provocative texts by Ruth Ozeki, Gerald Vizenor, and Octavia Butler, she will emphasize the “bionarrative” ethics characteristic of postgenomic literature and the self-reflexive commentary that such works make on the practices and values of literary study.
