SESSION DESCRIPTION
This session will discuss the history of advocacy for children and families in the US. Basic tenets of advocacy will be explored as we discuss the AAP's current approach to and priorities for advocacy. Finally, we will examine the importance of advocacy in contentious times, and describe the benefits of advocacy for both children and advocates.

EDUCATION GOALS

  • Define Advocacy and describe the basic tenets.
  • Discuss the AAP's long history of advocacy for children and families and describe how the past shapes current advocacy priorities.
  • Describe practical steps as well as benefits of advocacy during unsettling times.
