This event is over.

Event Details:

Research Data Services at Stanford University Libraries invites you to Data Slice Friday, a new lunch talk series that provides a platform for students and scholars to present their data science projects in an informal yet intellectually engaging setting. Each session features a presentation exploring motivations behind a project, analytical methods used, challenges encountered, and key insights gained. The presentation will be followed by a Q&A session.

This series offers an opportunity to deepen your understanding of data science techniques, connect with fellow researchers, and learn about library resources and services that support data-driven research. Please register here to attend. Pizza will be provided for participants. (* Food must remain inside the Velma Denning Room.)

Inaugural Event: Bike Thefts at Stanford in 2023

  • Speaker: Jay Gupta, Data Editor, The Stanford Daily

  • Date and Time: 12:00 - 1:00PM, Friday, March 14, 2025

  • Location: Velma Denning Room (120F), Green Library

Bike thefts are an issue on Stanford campus, but how can data help us understand the problem? In this talk we apply key components of the data journalism pipeline—from scraping to sourcing—to craft a compelling story.

Call for Presenters

We welcome Stanford students and scholars to share their data science work. Priority will be given to projects utilizing Stanford data or the Stanford Digital Repository. If you are interested in presenting, please contact Jooyeon Hahm (jhahm@stanford.edu) with a talk title and short description.
