DOCUMENTARY SCREENING & PANEL DISCUSSION ON MENTAL WELLNESS

The Stanford Early Life Stress and Resilience Program invites you to the screening of the new documentary, Blue Baby.

Blue Baby is a film that follows eight incarcerated youth through a prison alternative known as Boys Town. Their story challenges what people have believed about problem behavior for thousands of years.

Blue Baby explores the power of a social and emotional skills-based curriculum as an alternative to incarceration for delinquent youth. With extensive documentary footage collected over years, the filmmakers record a group of boys in a Boys Town residential program telling their stories of personal growth. This sensitive and important documentary offers a moving record of the inner lives of teenagers dedicated to transcending the difficult circumstances of their childhoods. The film offers insights that would enrich college courses spanning topics in child development, adverse childhood experiences, criminal justice reform, psychology and education.

Continuing the dialogue Blue Baby initiates, the film will be followed by a discussion including:

Lisa Sabey, the film’s producer, founder, and president of Parents-to-Parents, a non-profit organization creating documentaries that educate, and promote mental wellness.

Fabian Debora, Executive Director of the Home Boy Industry Art Academy and recipient of the National Endowment of the Arts Cultural Fellowship Award in DC.

Dr. Tami Soper, Advocacy and Policy advisor for Boys Town.

Mariana Klebanov, Child Welfare and Mental Health Attorney with the San Mateo County Private Defender Program and Psychotherapist with One Life Counseling Center.

Dr. Victor Carrión, John A. Turner M.D. Endowed Professor for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Vice Chair of Stanford Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Director of the Early Life Stress and Resilience Program.
