Event Details:

Earthquakes are in San Francisco’s future. A damaging earthquake of magnitude 6.7 or greater has a 72 percent chance of occurring in the Bay Area before 2043, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The City has made substantial progress in strengthening its buildings and infrastructure since the Loma Prieta Earthquake in 1989. However some building types, like concrete buildings and tilt-ups, remain vulnerable. Laurel Mathews will discuss her office’s efforts to address the risk from older concrete and tilt-up buildings
