This module offers a concise analysis of Argentina's current environmental policy and legal framework. This brief analysis and description of current environmental policy and legislation in Argentina seeks to convey the country's position on specific
issues, as well as how it has changed over time and through political changes up to the present.

Claudia Valls is a professor of Law and Politics of Natural Resources and the Environment at the National University of Buenos Aires (UBA) and the director of the online Argentinian environmental law review El Dial. Professor Valls has taught comparative environmental law as a visiting professor at the Pace and has been a resident advisor on sustainable development to the National Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development of Argentina where she worked on issues related to environmental, prevention, and control of pollution of water resources. Professor Valls has served as an expert advisor to Argentina's Ministry of Environment, where she coordinated the activities of the sector and presented laws to Congress. She has also served as the director of the Law Institute of Natural Resources and Environment of the Bar Association and worked as a consultant on constitutional and environmental issues for the senate of the province of Buenos Aires. Professor Valls has presented at numerous conferences and seminars including II Congreso Internacional de Derecho del Ambiente Brasil “Measures to Reduce the Ozone Depleting Substances” in Tokyo, Japan, and “Strategies for Poverty Mitigation and Sustainable Development” in Malaysia. Her extensive list of publications includes an Environmental Impact Assessment report, a National Manual for Inspectors project, a handbook for inspectors in Matanza-Riachuelo, and more. She is the recipient of the Technological and Scientific Production Award from the UBA Faculty of Law as well as the International Association for Impact Assessment Award in 2024.
