Film/Screening

Environmentalism and racial justice in America today. Two sides of the same coin?

This event is over.

Event Details:

In a panel discussion inspired by the topics raised in Vincent Terrell Durham's play Polar Bears, Black Boys, and Prairie Fringed Orchids, ESS graduate student Amina Ly and Earth Systems Deputy Director Richard Nevle respond to the play's mediation on the intersection of the Black Lives Matter Movement, gentrification, and environmentalism, while also opening a broader conversation on how to understand the apparent dichotomy between environmentalism and social justice. The conversation will continue at a social event after the panel and a virtual presentation of part of the exhibit Say Their Names – No More Names will take place in the Geo courtyard. Appetizers and drinks will be served.

Several excerpts of the play will be screened during the event to spark conversation between the speakers and the audience. A link to the film of the entire play will be sent a week before to those who RSVP in advance.

Livestream via Zoom will be available and details will be received upon registration.
