DESCRIPTION:Abstract\n\nLithium battery technology is critical to the decar
 bonization of air transport via electric aircraft\, and is the enabler beh
 ind new concepts in air transportation such as electric vertical take-off 
 and landing (eVTOL) air taxi services. The needs of battery technology for
  electric aviation are greatly different from consumer electronics and ele
 ctric ground vehicles. This talk will discuss how lithium-ion battery cell
 s of today can empower these technologies\, and how the design and chemist
 ry of these battery cells differ from those in other applications such as 
 EV. Battery pack design considerations for aerospace will also be highligh
 ted\, especially those around safety and thermal runaway management.\n\n\n
 \nBio\n\nWilliam is a Staff Cell Engineer at Archer\, where he leads cell 
 qualification and technical sourcing for Archer's eVTOL aircraft developme
 nt. William holds a B.S. in Nanoengineering from the University of Califor
 nia\, San Diego and a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from Stanfo
 rd University. William's PhD work with Professor Yi Cui at Stanford focuse
 d on structural and chemical characterization of the solid-electrolyte int
 erphase with cryogenic transmission electron microscopy\, along with its i
 mpact on battery degradation for advanced anode chemistries such as silico
 n and lithium metal. William joined Tesla following his PhD\, where he wor
 ked on anode materials qualification for various cell programs.\n\nReferen
