  join us for an information session led by Dr. Gautam Bhan\, Associate Dea
 n and Associate Professor\, IIHS University\, to learn more about opportun
 ities and the application process.\n\nAbout the Speaker\nGautam Bhan is an
  urbanist whose work focuses on urban poverty\, inequality\, social protec
 tion and housing. He is currently Associate Dean\, IIHS School of Human De
 velopment\, as well as Senior Lead\, Academics & Research\, at IIHS.\n\nGa
 utam’s previous research has focused on evictions\, citizenship and ineq
 uality in Delhi\, and at IIHS\, he continues to work on questions of acces
 s to affordable and adequate housing. He anchors IIHS’ role as a Nationa
 l Resource Centre with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs\, Governm
 ent of India. He is also a part of IIHS’ work in affordable housing poli
 cy and practice\, having worked with housing rights movements across the c
 ountry as well as state governments in Karnataka\, Delhi\, Rajasthan and O
 disha. His new work engages with regimes of urban welfare and social secur
 ity\, including work on urban health. At the School of Human Development\,
  he is building research and practice on questions of the design and deliv
 ery of social protection entitlements within urban India. He also has a de
 ep and abiding interest in new urban and planning theory from the South.\n
 \nHe is the author of In the Public’s Interest: Evictions\, Citizenship 
 and Inequality in Contemporary Delhi (University of Georgia Press\, 2017\;
  Orient BlackSwan\, 2017)\, co-editor of the Routledge Companion to Planni
 ng in the Global South (Routledge\, 2018\; Orient BlackSwan\, 2019)\, co-a
 uthor of Swept off the Map: Surviving Eviction and Resettlement in Delhi (
 Yoda Press\, 2008)\, and co-editor of Because I have a Voice: Queer Politi
 cs in India (Yoda Press\, 2006)\, in addition to numerous academic article
 s. He also writes frequently in public intellectual spaces. He holds a PhD
  in urban studies and planning from the University of California\, Berkele
 y.\n\nThe Indian Institute for Human Settlements (IIHS) is committed to th
 e equitable\, sustainable and efficient transformation of Indian settlemen
 ts. It does this through interdisciplinary teaching\, applied research and
  capacity development for a new generation of urban practitioners. Based i
 n Bengaluru\, India\, the University currently offers academic programmes 
 leading to post graduate and PhD degrees.\n\nIIHS is currently recruiting 
 faculty and postdoctoral scholars (at present\, these positions are limite
 d to Indian citizens).
