DESCRIPTION:The Department of German Studies invites you to join us for a f
eatured lecture:\n\nRilke’s poetry is singularly elusive. The “Things” so p
rominent in the Neue Gedichte\, Rodin\, and Malte may be better describe
d as insubstantial traces\, mere trails of time. Inversely\, as it seems\,
the timeless mythic-pastoral landscape of the Sonette an Orpheus (the work
I will emphasize here) sports such obtrusive material realities of the age
as factories\, electric glare and airplanes. And yet the Sonnets too sketch
the delicacy of existence\; the world is given but cannot be confirmed\, a
ny more than a poem can. \n\nPlease RSVP here today!\n\nCheck back here for
further updates. Past GSLS lectures are listed on the DLCL website.
