The Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability-Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion will be hosting a Coffee Convo to celebrate Hispanic & Latinx/e Heritage Month on Tuesday, October 1^st at 10:00AM in the Mitchell Building Patio.

Learn more about El Centro Chicano y Latino at Stanford from Margaret Sena, PhD (Assistant Dean and Associate Director) and the Society for Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) Chapter at Stanford University groups who are working to create an inclusive community for Hispanics, Latinos, and Chicanos at Stanford. For this event, we will have trivia, a book raffle, pan de dulce, and other treats!

​​September 15 to October 15 marks National Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month in the United States, which honors the many contributions and culture of individuals in this country who trace their heritage to Spain, Mexico, Central America, South America, and the Spanish-speaking countries in the Caribbean. September 15 is a significant date because it is the anniversary of independence for some Latin American countries like Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. While Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September 18, respectively.

​​We invite the Stanford community to celebrate with us this month by reading the story written by Elenita Nicholas, "What does it mean to be Latinx in the geosciences?" or by learning more about Hispanic/Latinx/Chicanx voices as part of our Identities Library.
