Event Details:

Finding health information online isn't a problem. In fact, it's easy to feel deluged with information about health and science. But how can you tell what's accurate and what isn't? We click on the enticing ad for the latest diet, Google our symptoms, and devour the health news on our social media feeds. But the information out there can prey on our desperate hopes or stoke our deepest fears. It can leave us confused and unsure what to do or who to trust.

In this noontime webinar, you will learn how to vet the health information you see online and develop essential skills for separating fact from fiction. We will explore the different categories of false information, learn how they spread, and identify the red flags that can indicate seemingly accurate information is inaccurate. By learning how to spot health and science misinformation, you can protect yourself from fake news and identify the accurate information you need to stay informed.

Instructor: Seema Yasmin, MB BChir, is an Emmy Award-winning journalist, medical doctor, and former CDC disease detective. She is director of the Stanford Health Communication Initiative, clinical assistant professor of medicine, a medical analyst for CNN, and author of Viral BS: Medical Myths and Why We Fall for Them.
