Event Details:
Billions of animals are farmed for food in the United States each year. For many of these animals, we don’t know the fundamental facts about what their lives are like, and what we can do to improve them. If we want to help animals as much as possible, we need to be able to compare opportunities across species. Given the choice between an intervention that aims to get sows out of gestation crates and one that tries to lower stocking density on shrimp farms, which should we choose? This talk outlines one way to answer such questions—and its limitations.
Dr. Bob Fischer is a Professor of Philosophy at Texas State University, Senior Research Manager at Rethink Priorities, and the Director of the Society for the Study of Ethics & Animals.
