Workshop 6: Anti-Racist Pedagogy

Monday May 16, 2022, 11 a.m. – 12 noon

Facilitated by Christine Schirmer, Teaching and Mentoring Academy, Stanford School of Medicine

Anti-racist pedagogy seeks to provide students with the ability to critically reflect on the ways in which oppressive power relations are inscribed in their own lives, as well as the lives of others. Antiracist teaching explores applications in different teaching contexts and modalities. This workshop provides an overview of how one public high school promoted anti-racist teaching and examines practices that transfer to the college classroom. Join us in this workshop to:

  • explain key tenets of Critical Race Theory
  • characterize anti-racist teaching practices
  • identify one to two action steps to infuse anti-racist practice into your teaching
