Jazz virtuoso George Brooks and Indian classical music star Mahesh Kale once again bring their popular collaboration to the Stanford Jazz Festival, reuniting to blend jazz energy and Indian ragas and rhythms in a performance that transcends cultural and musical barriers. Mahesh’s voice is incredibly beautiful, and his mastery of Indian classical music is astonishing — but his connection with George opens the door to unbridled creativity. George is one of the top jazz musicians around, but his life-long devotion to Indian classical music adds a dimension to his interactions with Mahesh that is full of joy. Mahesh and George are joined by four fantastic musicians, all of whom are pioneers of a variety of musical fusion: Utsal Lal, the Raga Pianist; Mayookh Bhaumik, tabla master and electronic music master; Julian Coryell, guitar virtuoso and son of the late Larry Coryell; and Scott Amendola, the legendary Bay Area drummer. This magical performance of otherworldly sounds delights the audience in the sold-out auditorium every year, so get your tickets early.
