DESCRIPTION:Join us for an engaging exploration of innovation in healthcare
and why it matters for patients and society\, with authors James and Robe
rt Rebitzer\n\nThe healthcare system generates the wrong kinds of innovati
on. It's too easy to profit from low-value innovations and too hard to pro
fit from innovations that reduce the costs of care. The result is a health
care system that is profusely innovative yet remarkably ineffective in dis
covering ways to deliver increased value at lower cost.\n\nBringing togeth
er research on incentives\, social norms\, and market competition\, the au
thors of Why Not Better and Cheaper? shed new light on the trajectory of i
nnovation in healthcare\, and how to steer innovation towards more effecti
ve and affordable solutions.\n\nJames B. Rebitzer is the Peter and Deborah
Wexler Professor at Boston University's Questrom School of Business where
he was founding chair of the department of Markets\, Public Policy\, and
Law. Formerly\, he was the Mannix Professor of Healthcare Finance and Econ
omics and Chair of the Economics Department at the Weatherhead School of M
anagement at Case Western University. He is a research associate at the Na
tional Bureau of Economic Research and a research fellow at the Institute
for the Study of Labor (IZA). James has received The Health Care Research
Award from the National Institute of Health Care Management and the Kennet
h J. Arrow Award from the International Health Economics Association.\n\nR
obert S. Rebitzer\, former COO of Stanford University's Clinical Excellenc
e Research Center (CERC)\, advises health systems\, academic medical cente
rs\, health insurers\, government\, and philanthropies on ways to improve
the quality and lower the cost of healthcare. He is a senior advisor at Ma
natt Health and a Distinguished Career Institute Fellow at Stanford Univer
sity. Formerly\, he was a partner in the healthcare strategy practice of A
ccenture and a Vice President of UnitedHealth Group. He has also served as
an advisor to the California Healthcare Foundation. He is currently chair
man of the board of El Camino Health System.\n\nModerated by Seth Rodgers\
, Licensing Manager\, Stanford University Office of Technology Licensing (
 OTL)\n\nIn-person event open to Stanford faculty\, students\, staff\, and
affiliates. Zoom attendance open to the general public.\n\nRegister: http:
