DESCRIPTION:Within the European imaginary Romani people have served as an “
 Ontological Other\,” in post-Enlightenment thought (Wynter 1987). Against a
  backdrop of centuries of racialization this talk asks: How might sound and
  music help to augment a Romani subjectivity that is informed by this racia
 lized abjection. How might sound recuperate subjectivities stifled through 
 the dehumanization of racialization? By reframing the exclusionary processe
 s of Othering as a way of being and sounding “Otherwise”—beyond the negativ
 e interpellations and subjectification—this talk engages Roma music and sou
