Event Details:

Kinesthetic Delight: Playful Mindfulness in the Museums, will be a contemplative community gathering at the Anderson Collection celebrating the power of art, mindfulness, and play that highlights the essential role that art can play as a public health intervention to support mental health and wellbeing.

The event is sponsored by the Art and Wellbeing Engagement (AWE) initiative of LifeWorks, an integrative learning program within Stanford Living Education (SLED). The convening will demonstrate the multiple lenses through which art and wellbeing can be engaged by bringing together faculty and teaching staff from across the university, including Alex Nemerov (Professor of Art History and renowned author), Kelly McGonigal (psychologist, author, group-ex instructor, and Lecturer in the Graduate School of Business), Brianna Griffin (Wellbeing Coach with Well-Being at Stanford), Ted DesMaisons (Founder of ANIMA Learning and author of Playful Mindfulness), Derek Yee (Co-Artistic Director of BATS Improv), Diane Friedlaender (Head of Leadership and Social Change), and Gigi Otálvaro (Head of LifeWorks and artist-scholar). The event's title is inspired by Barbara Dilley's writing on contemplative dance practices and DesMaison's book, Playful Mindfulness.™

Funded by the McMurtry Arts Inititiaves Grant through the Office of the Vice President for the Arts, co-sponsored by the Anderson Collection, the Department of Art and Art History, and the Department of Theater and Performance Studies, and hosted by the students of LIFE/ARTHIST 180/ARTSINST 280: Art, Meditation, and Creation, and TAPS/LIFE 99: Kinesthetic Delight: Movement and Meditation.
