Teaching, while being a rewarding vocation, can feel overwhelming and make us feel vulnerable from time to time. Such stress can be amplified by a competitive university culture, pressure to achieve results, and ever-changing circumstances. Self-compassion has been shown to help reduce stress and alleviate the fear of failure. We would like to invite you to a collaborative writing session to reflect on your teaching experience with self-compassion and peer support.

In this session, you will learn how to show up for yourself compassionately. Through a collaborative writing exercise, you will be invited to share anonymously about a challenging or stressful experience in your teaching. Then you will practice talking compassionately by first responding to an anonymous peer, then to yourself. If time allows, we will reflect together on ways to foster greater self-compassion within the higher education community.

CTL will provide coffee, tea, and light snacks. Participants are welcome to bring their own lunch.
