DESCRIPTION:Lecturers and Academic Staff (LATS) Events Series\n\nTeaching\,
while being a rewarding vocation\, can feel overwhelming and make us feel
vulnerable from time to time. Such stress can be amplified by a competitive
university culture\, pressure to achieve results\, and ever-changing circu
mstances. Self-compassion has been shown to help reduce stress and alleviat
e the fear of failure. We would like to invite you to a collaborative writi
ng session to reflect on your teaching experience with self-compassion and
peer support.\n\nIn this session\, you will learn how to show up for yourse
lf compassionately. Through a collaborative writing exercise\, you will be
invited to share anonymously about a challenging or stressful experience in
your teaching. Then you will practice talking compassionately by first res
ponding to an anonymous peer\, then to yourself. If time allows\, we will r
eflect together on ways to foster greater self-compassion within the higher
education community.\n\nCTL will provide coffee\, tea\, and light snacks.
Participants are welcome to bring their own lunch.
