Leaders as Trustees of Others' Time

Join us for April's Manager Forum where Bob Sutton, Organizational Psychologist and Professor of Management Science and Engineering, will lead a session on Leaders as Trustees of Other' Time.

Bob will discuss highlights from "The Friction Project," his new book with Graduate School of Business Professor Hayagreeva (Huggy) Rao. Their main insight is that skilled leaders are friction fixers, trustees of others' time who are bent on making the right things easier and the wrong things harder for others, and adept at helping them to move fast AND to slow down (or come to a screeching stop) at the right times. Bob will share how a friction fixer's work is "part therapy and part organizational design." He will also dig into the causes and remedies for common friction traps including oblivious leaders, addition sickness, and fast and frenzied people and teams. Much of this conversation will be devoted to the little things that you can do to make life better for your colleagues, students, and others who work with and are served by the university.
