 ATTENDEES\n\nSpeaker: Semira Manaseki-Holland FRCP\, FFPHM\, MRCPCH\, PhD\
 , MPH\, MBBS\, BMedSci Reader in Public Health/Global Health\, Institute o
 f Applied Health Research\, University of Birmingham Semira trained as a p
 ublic health physician in England with joint qualifications in paediatrics
 . Semira’s research leadership focuses on health systems and maternal-ch
 ild health\, mainly in low and middle-income countries (LMICs) over a 25 y
 ear period. Semira worked in the English NHS for 9 years after which she i
 ntensified her global health research and health systems delivery\, includ
 ing living and working in Mongolia\, and Afghanistan.\n\nSemira has worked
  extensively for WHO HQ\, UN agencies\, Ministries of Health and NGOs on a
  variety of settings and health programmes. Semira’s pioneering internat
 ional work includes conducting the first randomized control trials (RCT) i
 n Mongolia and Afghanistan\, on health effects of infant swaddling and non
 -bone outcomes of childhood vitamin D supplementation\, respectively. As C
 EO for Central Asia for a large multi-national NGO (AKHS) between 2005-200
 9 she managed the delivery of Afghanistan’s integrated healthcare servic
 es in 3 provinces\, which ranged from provincial hospitals to district/vil
 lage clinics. At the same time she supported national health care delivery
  and reform systems in two remote\, mountainous provinces of Tajikistan.\n
 \nCurrently Semira’s research focuses on Mongolia on various aspects of 
 health effects and interventions for air pollution in Ulaanbaatar\, delive
 ring a 120 cluster RCT in urban and rural Mali\, on community level interv
 ention to improve complementary food\, its safety-hygiene and play hygiene
 \, microplastics in child health\, and health systems research in India an
 d other LMIC on clinical handover and clinical pathways for non-communicab
 le diseases and maternal healthcare.\n\n----------------------------\n\nTh
 e MCHRI Seminar Series highlight compelling clinical topics\, innovative r
 esearch\, and the latest developments in maternal and child health\, and s
 erves as a forum for engaging in conversations with other researchers and 
 scientists across the community.\n\nStudents\, faculty\, and postdoctoral 
 researchers are encouraged to attend the seminars.
