Final Student Showcase with VPA Visiting Artist Anicka Yi

Metaspore is a nomadic research initiative led by conceptual artist Anicka Yi. The aim of Metaspore is to generate interdisciplinary “spores” of connection and action for 21st century planetary paradigm shifts. Metaspore applies and expands on Yi's collaborative artistic practice as a philosophy for bringing the arts and sciences together in action as new paradigms solidify. During this course, Yi and instructor Miguel Novelo guided students through immersive media and extended reality experiments exploring both the human and more-than-human sensorium, questioning how we can augment our own perceptions and intuitions, while also considering the diverse sensory ecologies of other life forms and incorporating these ideas into our immersive practices. Students worked in teams to produce creative work in response to these concepts.
