DESCRIPTION:When it comes to sleep\, we know the importance of getting enou
gh sleep every night\, and most have heard about the importance of sleep h
ygiene in supporting healthy sleep. However\, many of us may not be aware
of the importance of diet on our sleep or the effects of sleep have on our
daily food choices. \n\nIn this online class\, we will learn about the im
portant relationship between nutrition and sleep and steps you can take to
optimize both to eat smarter\, sleep better\, and live a healthier life.
We will examine the latest research into the links between sleep and nutri
tion\, including the relationship between dietary patterns and daytime sle
epiness\, how sleep deprivation can lead to poorer food choices\, and the
importance of understanding our circadian rhythm and the timing of our mea
ls. Through increased awareness and conscientious food choices\, we can le
arn how to break the poor diet/poor sleep cycle and improve our overall we
 ll-being. \n\nInstructor: Maryam Makowski\, PhD\, FACN\, NBC-HWC\, is a cl
inical assistant professor at the Stanford Department of Psychiatry and Be
havioral Sciences\, the associate director of scholarship and health promo
tion at the Stanford WellMD & WellPhD Center\, and a BeWell coach.
