The Department of Art & Art History presents OK Corpse, the Spring 2022 Undergraduate Art Practice Honors Thesis Exhibition. Culminating the yearlong undergraduate honors thesis program in art practice, this group exhibition showcases works by: Alyssa Diaz, Gunner Dongieux, Kaylee Nok, and Cathy Yang. Some of these students have intentionally waited to have their exhibition in person, taking a gap year, and all have relished being back in the McMurtry labs and their own studios in the Stanford Art Gallery honors studio making art alongside one another.

Varied in their practices and backgrounds these four students held lengthy critiques, worked long nights in the studio, dove into conceptual research, met with visiting artists, and refined technical aspects in each of their practices. These students address ambitious and timely topics such as migration, cross national work, feminism, family archives, fragmentation, absurdism, and instability. Through painting, sculpture, photography, and installation each student is developing a visual language that is needed in this moment of global restructuring. Similar to the turn from modernism to postmodernism, this current moment is one where commonly held epistemologies and ontologies are changing as these young artists explore what it means to be creative while living through an extinction event. —Terry Berlier, Curator
