Approach to the Patient with Delayed Puberty: Does Genetics Change What We Do?

SESSION DESCRIPTION
In this session, we will review the pathogenesis and differential diagnosis of delayed puberty. We will discuss a paradigm to help think through the approach to such cases and also consider whether new knowledge about the genetics of delayed puberty affects our approach.


EDUCATION GOALS 

  • Summarize how genetic studies have enhanced understanding of the physiology of pubertal onset.
  • Describe the utility of genetic tests in the diagnostic evaluation of delayed puberty.
  • Review approach to differential diagnosis, including identification of key features that distinguish constitutional delay of growth and puberty from pathologic states.
