SESSION DESCRIPTION

The optimization of the residency recruitment process for both applicants and programs has been an area of much debate in the medical education community following the introduction of virtual interviews during the COVID-19 pandemic. As virtual interviews continue to be recommended for pediatrics residency recruitment, the introduction of in-person second look visits has become a topic of discussion when considering best practices for a fair and equitable application and selection process. In a debate-style format, we will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of in-person second looks for programs and applicants.

• Review the current state of in-person second look visits within the residency recruitment process.
• Assess the pros and cons of second looks for applicants and programs.
• Consider both alternatives to as well as best practices for in-person second look visits.
