 eading cause of death in American children. From 2019 to 2021\, adolescent
  overdose deaths more than doubled\, driven by an increasingly dangerous d
 rug supply contaminated with illicitly manufactured fentanyl. In this Gran
 d Rounds presentation\, Dr. Hadland will begin by reviewing the\nepidemiol
 ogy of substance use and overdose among youth in the US. Next\, he will re
 view best practices for opioid prescribing\, and finally\, review evidence
 -based screening and addiction treatment for youth with opioid use disorde
 rs.\n\nEDUCATION GOALS\n\nDescribe the epidemiology of substance use-relat
 ed harm in the US\, with a focus on overdoses among adolescents and young 
 adults (“youth”).Prescribe opioids in a manner that reduces the likeli
 hood of risk for long-term opioid use and addiction. Ensure evidence-based
