Session Description
Direct admissions to hospital: love them or hate them? This presentation will discuss the benefits and challenges of direct admission to hospital as an alternative to admission through emergency departments. Through case studies and discussions of recent research comparing the effectiveness of direct admission to emergency department admission, this presentation will answer all of your questions about when and how to bypass the emergency department and admit children to hospital directly.

  • Debate the relative benefits and challenges of direct admission to hospital compared to admission through the emergency department.
  • Describe recommended components of an effective direct admission system of care.
