Purchasing Accessible Technology: Using and Understanding the VPAT

Sponsored by

This event is over.

Event Details:

The VPAT (Voluntary Product Accessibility Template) is the most common format used by vendors and suppliers to document how their website, web-based application, or mobile app conforms with established accessibility standards. However, the VPAT document can sometimes be used to convey inaccurate information. Knowing how a VPAT is organized and structured will help you evaluate if the information is appropriate.

This session will cover what to expect in a VPAT from vendors, what kinds of follow-up questions you may want to ask, and what makes a "good" VPAT. We will also discuss how a VPAT gets written and how it may or may not give you the information you need to make an informed decision about a product's level of accessibility. After this session you will:

  • Know what a VPAT is and its relevance when procuring accessible digital products
  • Understand how one is written and the effort that goes into creating one
  • Understand how to spot a poorly written VPAT and how this may impact your follow-up and decision making process
  • Understand how to read and use a well-written VPAT

Please register for the Zoom session in advance. This session will be recorded for later viewing.

Automatic captioning will be provided during the event.
