Stanford Public Humanities and the Creative Writing Program invite you to a reading and conversation with poet and novelist sam sax. Sax is the author of Yr Dead, longlisted for The National Book Award and PIG named one of the best books of 2023 by New York Magazine and Electric Lit. They're also the author of Madness, winner of The National Poetry Series and Bury It winner of the James Laughlin Award from the Academy of American Poets. They're the two time Bay Area Grand Slam Champion and have received fellowships from The National Endowment for the Arts, Yaddo, Lambda Lit, and MacDowell. Sax currently serves as an ITALIC Lecturer at Stanford University.

Sax will be in conversation with poet and editor Aracelis Girmay, the Knight Family Professor of Creative Writing and Professor of English at Stanford. She is the author of three full-length collections and the recently published chapbook and was a flower. For her work she received a Whiting Award and was a finalist for the Neustadt International Prize for Literature. girmay is on the editorial board of the African Poetry Book Fund.
