US-ATMC Director Dr. Richard Dasher will lead a fireside chat with Mike Lim, Partner at TRIREC, and Leon Farrant, Green Li-Ion’s CEO & Co-Founder, on how they are working together to revolutionize the battery industry.

Singapore-based TRIREC is an investment holding company concentrating on renewable energy and clean technology projects focused primarily in Asia Pacific and North America. Mike Lim will discuss the vision behind their fund, recent trends in Asia regarding climate tech and sustainability VC investing, and what it was about Green Li-Ion that made the company an attractive investment for TRIREC. 

Green Li-Ion, also out of Singapore, offers the world’s first deep-clean technology that fully rejuvenates lithium-ion batteries.  We’ll hear from Leon Farrant about the need for lithium recycling, the impact of old batteries on the environment, and what makes his company and their technology so distinctive.

Leon Farrant, the Chief Executive Officer of the Green Li-Ion Pte Ltd, is an awarded and accomplished Leader who has been exposed to the energy and engineering sectors as a CEO and executive manager for over 15 years. Leon’s experience driving the performance of global energy industry companies saw him lead large, dispersed teams and technical projects to success. Leon is known for his consensus-building ability, vision and rigour. Leon is a socially and environmentally conscious leader that tries to support diverse communities. 

Mike Lim draws on more than 15 years of experience in strategic business planning and execution, specializing in strategic advisory, fund raising, M&A and corporate finance. Prior to joining TRIREC, he held various senior management roles in investment banking and corporates in Asia. He also co-founded several businesses in the IOT and future foods space. Mike is currently a mentor of Innovate 360, a Singapore-based Agrifood Tech incubator.

Mike holds a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration (BBA) with Second Upper Honors from the National University of Singapore.

Dr. Richard Dasher has directed the US-Asia Technology Management Center since 1994 and is Adjunct Professor of East Asia Languages and Cultures at Stanford University. From 1998 – 2017, he served concurrently as Executive Director of the Center for Integrated Systems (now Stanford System X Alliance) and held Consulting Professor appointments in the Department of Electrical Engineering. In 2004, Dr. Dasher became the first non-Japanese person to join the governance of a Japanese national university, serving on the Board of Directors and then on the Management Council of Tohoku University until 2011. Other service (selected) includes the Program Committee of the World Premier International Research Center Initiative (WPI) of MEXT since its founding in 2007, and advisory roles with research institutes, accelerators, and nonprofits in Asia, Canada, and the U.S.

This program is part of a 9-week series on "Topics in International Technology Management: New Business in Asia Driven by Climate-Tech and Sustainability", which begin September 29, 2022 and continue weekly until December 1, 2022. Seminars will be held Thursdays, 5:30 PM – 7:00 PM.  Throughout the series, we’ll have guest speakers from industry and academia present examples of problem-driven innovation for environmental sustainability, climate change amelioration and mitigation, ESG reporting, SDG targeting, and related topics. Focus is on present-day developments in Asia business, technology, and investing, along with their implications for Silicon Valley and the U.S.
