shington as an Estonian diplomat and work on NATO-Russia and NATO-Ukraine
topics at a time when these relationships were considerably less charged t
han today.\n\nMichael McFaul is Director at the Freeman Spogli Institute f
or International Studies\, the Ken Olivier and Angela Nomellini Professor
of International Studies in the Department of Political Science\, and the
Peter and Helen Bing Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution. He joined th
e Stanford faculty in 1995. He served for five years in the Obama administ

or Russian and Eurasian Affairs at the National Security Council at the Wh
ite House (2009-2012)\, and then as U.S. Ambassador to the Russian Federat
ion (2012-2014).\n\nOpening remarks will be delivered by Amir Weiner\, Ass
